What is the Artist Support Pledge (ASP)?
“ARTIST SUPPORT PLEDGE is a culture and economy in support of artists and makers established .. by artist Matthew Burrows on 16th March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now a global movement of connected communities committed to an equitable and sustainable economy for artist and makers of all countries, media and ethnicities.”

All artists and makers can join the pledge by posting on Instagram using the hashtag #artistsupportpledge and giving details of their works and price (max £200 price).
Each artist who joins the pledge commits to buying the work of another artist(s) once they reach £1,000 of sales of their own artworks.
Donations are also encouraged to support other concerns too, such as charities.
How can I take part?
You can follow the hashtag #artistsupportpledge and you can follow the Instagram account @artistsupportpledge
And of course you can buy art from artists who have joined the pledge. You do not have to be a member to buy or sell under the ASP movement.
It’s an act of generosity to take part, please do support artists.

Why take part in the artist support pledge?
Because to put it simply, art matters. #ArtIsEssential
Many artists (including myself) have missed out on in-person events including local markets, art fairs and gallery exhibitions due to Covid-19 restrictions. These kind of events are very important for artists because they offer an opportunity for artists to meet and engage with their audience, to build relationships with people, and of course to sell work.
Artists have to try and sustain their practice through lockdown, whilst juggling family and other commitments, plus for some paying studio rent too. It can be really difficult to maintain the kind of focus needed for creating art under these circumstances.
How else can I support Artists and small businesses?
The little things count as well. If you cannot afford to buy original art, you can support artists by buying something small like a greetings card or mini print (check out the @justacard campaign), or you could buy a ‘virtual’ coffee.
It also helps if you can spare some time to comment on, and share an artists work on social media. And you can keep in touch by reading and sharing an artists newsletter. Join my newsletter via the form below.
